I am a seasoned professional, experienced in analysis and evaluation. I am knowledgeable about public policy, community development, and placemaking. I am proficient in moderating professional relationships, creating supportive groups and collaborative partnerships, and supervising teams. I use my knowledge and skills to observe and evaluate community practices and then communicate findings and recommendations orally and in writing in order to advance and promote sustainable, local communities.

My research is focused on public policy and management as they relate to the use of community assets and resources to build public value. My work is published or forthcoming in The International Journal of Arts Management,The Journal of Arts Management, Law, and Society, Artivate, The Journal of Emergency Management, The Journal of Rural and Community Development, Local Development & Society, The Policy Studies Journal, Public Administration Quarterly, and The Public Performance and Management Review.

I have made more than 30 research presentations at conferences in Australia, Canada, China, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan and the United States including the annual conferences of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA), the Association of Cultural Economics International (ACEI), the International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management (AIMAC), the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR), Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA), Social Theory, Politics, and the Arts (STPA), Southern Political Science Association (SPSA), and the Urban Affairs Association (UAA). I was awarded the Emerging Scholars Award by ARNOVA in 2011.

I joined the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University in 2021, after 8 years in the Division of Arts Management and Arts Entrepreneurship (AMAE) at Southern Methodist University. I have taught face-to-face, remote synchronous and asynchronous, and intensive courses to diverse undergraduate and graduate students in public affairs, nonprofit management, arts management, and cultural policy at the University of Colorado Denver, Southern Methodist University, Universidad Panamericana, and Texas Tech University.
